About the data · checked 4 October 2026
How the India pages are built.
The India hub, the 36 State pages, the 86 district pages and the industry pages use only official data, joined and checked by Dwize. This page lists every source, the work done on top of it, and what the data cannot tell you.
Sources
Where every fact comes from.
- Local Government Directory Ministry of Panchayati Raj
- The 789 districts of 36 States and UTs: current names, LGD codes and headquarters.
- One District One Product DPIIT and Invest India
- Each district’s product (DPIIT / Invest India ODOP Product List V33, dated 31 December 2025), for 776 districts.
- GI Registry Intellectual Property India
- Registered Geographical Indications by State and goods type.
- Udyam Registration dashboard Ministry of MSME
- State totals as published on 4 October 2026. District counts for 773 districts come from the dashboard’s last published district tables (archived official pages, September to December 2024), dated on every page.
- Census of India 2011 Office of the Registrar General and Census Commissioner
- Primary Census Abstract (population, urban share, literacy, households) for 630 current districts, and the Location Code Directory (statutory towns, census towns and sub-districts) for 540.
- Districts as Export Hubs Directorate General of Foreign Trade
- Export products named for 731 districts (July 2024 note, plus items found only in the 2021 list).
- GST portal and IGST Act GSTN and the Government of India
- State codes, and whether an invoice from Dwize (Rajasthan) shows IGST or CGST + SGST.
- State Official Language Acts State governments
- Official languages of each State and UT.
- District industrial profiles and surveys MSME-DI (Ministry of MSME) and District Industries Centres, Government of Rajasthan
- With district websites, RIICO, Rajasthan Tourism and the Department of Mines and Geology: 450 facts for the 41 Rajasthan district profiles, each kept with a verbatim quote from its source.
- Census 2011 town-level abstract Office of the Registrar General and Census Commissioner
- Population of the largest towns in 87 districts, matched to each town’s Census code and checked against the district’s urban population.
- Wikidata Wikimedia
- Item IDs for each State and district page, matched by LGD code, so search engines and AI assistants know exactly which place is meant.
What Dwize added
The work between the sources.
- 01 Joined sources that spell places differently Udyam, DGFT and the Census use older or different district names (Bangalore, Mujaffarpur, Allahabad). Name maps join them to the current list; districts merged back in Rajasthan in December 2024 are added to the district they rejoined.
- 02 Traced 191 district splits since 2011 Each new district is linked to the 2011 district it came from, with a gazette, State government or other cited source, plus 106 renames. Where a district has been split since 2011, its Census figures say so (Thane’s include Palghar).
- 03 Mapped 268 sub-districts village by village For the 19 split districts behind the published district pages, every 2011 village was traced to its current district so that a town is shown only in the district it lies in today. 23 sub-districts that were divided are listed under the district holding most of them. A district gets a list of places only when every area that went into it has been traced.
- 04 Wrote a sourced profile for every Rajasthan district Rajasthan is Dwize’s home State, so all 41 of its districts have a page. Each profile (450 facts in all) comes from district industrial surveys, district websites, RIICO, Rajasthan Tourism and the mines department; every fact links to its source, old figures carry their year, and claims such as “largest” are attributed to whoever made them. Districts formed in 2023 draw on their parent district’s sources, tied to their own tehsils. Current tehsils (425) come from LGD.
- 05 Computed, never estimated Ranks and shares compare districts within the same dated snapshot; State comparisons are shown only where the State’s boundary is unchanged since 2011. Nothing is projected forward.
- 06 Said which product fits, and labelled it Grouping a district’s products by the Dwize product that fits (an online store for goods sold to buyers anywhere; a website for trades that start with an enquiry) is Dwize’s recommendation, not part of the official data.
Limits
What the data cannot tell you.
- Udyam district figures are about two years old: the dashboard has shown no district tables since early 2025, and the snapshot sums to about 57% of today’s national Udyam total. They are used for ranks and shares, and always dated.
- Census 2011 is the most recent completed census. Towns and sub-districts are listed as they were in 2011, and some have changed status since.
- Delhi has no district pages until data on its 2026 districts exists.
- Many district industrial profiles date from 2015-16 to 2020-21; each fact shows its year. Several new districts have little official material of their own yet.
- Districts formed in 2023 show small Udyam counts: a business is counted under the district it named when registering, so older registrations there are likely still under the parent district.
- Some new districts have no One District One Product entry yet, and a few have no DGFT entry; those gaps are left as gaps.
- The village-level trace used a daily public copy of LGD data, because the official LGD site sits behind a CAPTCHA; a handful of single-village moves rest on LGD alone and are noted in the data.
- Product and GI names are shown as published, with spelling and formatting tidied (for example “Enginering” → “Engineering”); the raw files keep the original text.
District pages are published in batches, starting with the 86 districts with the most registered MSMEs; every other district is on its State page. See something wrong? Tell us on WhatsApp or write to hello@dwize.in, and the page is corrected with the source noted.
